Literature Text

Sometimes I sit there in my room
And I think what my life would be
If I was someone else for a day
If for once I wasn’t me

Supposing I was Keith Moon
Breaking things for fun!
I’d never rest or close my eyes
Not even when the day was done

I could be like one Joe Strummer
Left-wing all the way
I’d try to make a difference
I want people to have their say

Maybe I’d be Dan Treacy
I’d have a poet’s hand
I’d play more than just Part Time Punks
Be the hero of my indie land

I could even be Paul Weller
That’s the face I’d want to be
I’d be the height of fashion
All the mods would follow me!

What if I was John Ritchie
Or Sid Vicious as I’d be known
You can’t arrest me – I’m a rockstar!
Coolness to the bone

I’d love to be Steve Marriott
Man, wouldn’t that be cool!
I’d sit there in Itchycoo Park
I might burn down my school

I could be Johnny Cash
The Man In Black they’d say
Singing about what’s around me
Until my clothes were worn to grey

Ju suis Morrissey?
I’d like to be him for a bit
I think I’d win in any fight
Your sword against my wit!

Could I be Jens Lekman?
The talent in my brain
Enough to feed the planet
Or keep a few kids sane

Perhaps I’d make a good Lou Reed
At least that’s what Echo Says
I’d work with Andy Warhol
Who says I can’t hit it sideways?

If I was David Bowie
I’d be the chameleon of rock
I’d always be one step ahead
My aim? I’m out to shock!

For one day I could be Boy George
I’d be every profession there is
I’d have my own free style
Could I be the king of show biz?

You’ve probably noticed my one mistake
Look back and see if you can
I could never be anyone here
Because each one is a man
I have returned with my attempts to create a poem!

I've been toying with this idea for a while, basically I had this thought of writing a poem or song, whatever you want to call it about how I could be each one of my idols. If you don't know who the people in the poem are:
(The people in the poem are in no particular order)

Keith Moon
Drummer with The Who. Known for being really destructive and just doing things out of the ordinary.

Joe Strummer
Lead singer with The Clash/The Mescaleros. Into left wing politics and had a thing with the people.

Dan Treacy
Lead singer with the Television Personalities. I love this man's lyrics but it seems he always has to play Part Time Punks at any gig.

Paul Weller
Lead singer with The Jam/Style Council. Very fashionable & mod.

John Ritchie/Sid Vicious.
Bassist with the Sex Pistols. After police attempted to arrest him he supposedly said "You can’t arrest me – I’m a rockstar!"

Steve Marriott
Lead singer with the Small Faces/Humble Pie. Itcycoo Park is the name of a Small Faces song & Marriott once burned down his school.

Johnny Cash
Country singer. Known as The Man In Black.

Morrissey
Je Suis Morrissey is written on a shirt that Mozza recently wore. He seems to believe in 'the pen is mightier that the sword' and, he is, of course very witty.

Jens Lekman
Swedish singer Jens Lekman is just amazing!
I think the 'Or keep a few kids sane' line is based on his song Psychogirl or I may just've made it up for no reason.

Lou Reed
Singer with The Velvet Underground. Known for his *girl's name* Says songs. Such as Stephanie Says & Candy Says. "hit it sideways?" is from a Velvets song.

David Bowie
Known as The Chameleon Of Rock. He can supposedly 'sense' what the next big thing is. I wonder...

Boy George
Boy George really is every profession under the sun, Director, singer & fashion designer to name a few.
